Though it may seem otherwise, transitioning from a career in music to one in food isn’t too great of an intellectual leap. Both studies demand discipline and artfulness, an attention to detail coupled with an eye for the final composition. And these are precisely the qualities that Stephen Rogers, former classical pianist and vocal coach, brings to his role of Executive Chef at PRESS.
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Stephen began his restaurant tenure at age fifteen. Though his musical education (Curtis Institute of Music, Indiana University, Manhattan School of Music) was as illustrious as his career, he always kept one foot in the restaurant world. When his performing stints in the various corners of Europe would end, Stephen would return back home to the various restaurants of New York City where he worked all manner of positions—front of the house, back of the house, even management. His true calling, however, was in the kitchen, and here at PRESS he has truly hit his stride. His world travels have very much informed his culinary perspective and his deft and discerning touch elevates PRESS far above other steakhouses, to a restaurant of substance and class.
