From Vineyard to Bottle: Exploring Napa Valley with Iconic Winemaker Heidi Barrett
Since she first broke onto the Napa Valley scene in 1980, gifted winemaker Heidi Barrett has set trends that scores of ambitious young winemakers have followed. In the early years, her journey included becoming the youngest head winemaker in Napa Valley when she was hired by Beuhler Winery on Howell Mountain in 1983. Then, after making the brave decision to be an independent winemaker after the birth of her second daughter in 1988, she received 100-point scores for the 1992 and 1993 vintage wines she made at Dalla Valle Vineyards and set a world record when a 6L bottle of the Screaming Eagle 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon she made sold for $500,000 at the Napa Valley Wine Auction in 2000. On the side, Heidi started her La Sirena brand in 1994. And today, the annual offerings from La Sirena and Barrett & Barrett, the brand she makes with her husband Bo, are loved and respected by wine critics, sommeliers, collectors, and wine enthusiasts around the globe.
Moderated by wine, food and television star Leslie Sbrocco of KQED’s “Check, Please!”, this exclusive seminar and tasting is focused on Heidi’s secrets behind the way she captures the deep, rich and complex flavors of the fruit she works with from premier vineyards in the wines she makes for her La Sirena and Barrett & Barrett labels, as well as other special selections from the highly-touted Napa Valley brands Paradigm, Fantesca, Kenzo Estate and Lamborn Family Vineyards.
